Melanie Budd Biography

Melanie Budd crafts introspective, roots-rock flavored songs that speak from-and to-the heart. A Chicago-based songwriter and performer for more than a decade, Budd's Kansas upbringing and love for her family and friends, deeply inform her music, grounding it with raw emotion, honest empathy and hopeful optimism. A dancer as a child, inspired by her dance teacher mom, Budd took to classical music and the flute. Now years later, and still influenced by classics in a way, Budd steeps her songs in the richly detailed portraits of singer/songwriters like Emmylou Harris, Shawn Colvin, Joni Mitchell and Nancy Griffith.

"Remedy", Budd's second album to be released in June and produced and arranged by Steve Dawson, showcases sharp melodies cast against expansive arrangements, featuring a captivating and evocative alto. The album represents Melanie's unique and energizing band sound with the combination of recordings at Kingsize Labs Studio (John Abbey) and Kernel Sound Emporium (Steve Dawson). The album includes top Chicago musicians, Steve Dawson, John Abbey, Chris Hatem, and Eugenia Elliott.
